Our genius is pretty much done with her college, is a self-proclaimed klutz and is very much into lollypops and being late everywhere. Or rather not precisely going of her free will but rather getting her clumsy butt into a not-very-nice set up. A girly-girl orphan going on to hacking business. defends large corporations in civil suits? And that the two of them are getting paired up to defend a company in what's going to be the largest civil suit of gender discrimination ever? But the fact that she's a female lawyer who defends companies when they get sued for gender discrimination and yet claims to be a feminist and somehow isn't conflicted about her job isn't something I can get over. Payton, the female lead, is a little better. He is the definition of uber-entitled white male privilege who, in his own words, doesn't believe in privilege. I got nearly 80 pages in, and J.D., the male lead, has acted like a hardcore meninist-style misogynist the entire time. I was promised a lighthearted, entertaining romance with lots of laughs. Narrated by Keira Stevens and Shane East, the story is extraordinary. Kent rips our hearts out and slowly puts them back together and creates a beautiful love story. It deals with depression, addiction, love, degradation, and so many more issues. And together, years later, these two find their way through the darkness. Xander has secrets, ones that are tearing him apart. Not only does she deal with this with her best friend, but her mother incessantly degrades her. Kimberly and Xander have been friends since birth, until one day, Xander just dumps her and begins to treat her terribly. While it resides in the bully trope, it brings out so many more truths in our youth. Rina Kent has a talent for bringing this type of story to our attention.
